Project Overview
Bilancia supported manufacturing clients across multiple sectors by conducting cradle-to-gate Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) for a range of product categories, including pesticides, electrical cables, telecom cables, switchgear, and ceiling fans. The assessments enabled clients to quantify environmental impacts across key stages of production and use the insights to support sustainability strategy, product development, and stakeholder engagement.
Client Challenge
Clients operating in diverse manufacturing segments faced increasing pressure to demonstrate the environmental performance of their products. Key challenges included
- Limited visibility into product-level environmental impacts
- Growing customer and regulatory requirements for credible environmental data
- Need to substantiate sustainability claims with defensible analysis
- Lack of structured inputs to inform eco-design and product improvement decisions
Without robust life-cycle data, clients were constrained in responding to stakeholder expectations and in identifying priority improvement opportunities.
Scope of Engagement
Bilancia was engaged to conduct cradle-to-gate LCAs covering raw material extraction through manufacturing, tailored to each product category and client context. The scope focused on generating decision-useful insights rather than purely academic assessments, enabling clients to apply results directly to business and sustainability objectives.
Key Deliverables
- Product-specific cradle-to-gate LCA study reports
- Environmental footprint profiles across key impact areas
- Identification of material and process-level impact hotspots
- Scenario analysis to assess potential improvement options
- Executive summaries to support internal and external communication
Outcomes / Impact
- Enabled product teams to integrate environmental considerations into design and material selection
- Strengthened credibility of sustainability claims with ISO-aligned LCA evidence
- Supported responses to customer, investor, and regulatory information requests
- Identified opportunities for environmental impact reduction with potential cost co-benefits
- Provided a robust data foundation for future eco-labels, EPDs, and sustainability disclosures
